Introducing the Counterculture Museum!

Opening Spring 2025 — At the intersection of Haight & Ashbury

Welcome to the Counterculture Museum—a groundbreaking new museum opening in the heart of San Francisco, a city at the center of transformative ideas. Created by the founders and management of The Beat Museum, established in 2003, we are building upon a legacy of celebrating movements that have reshaped our world. Our mission is to promote a deeper understanding of countercultural movements—from the Beat Generation, hippies, the civil rights movement, women’s liberation, LGBTQ+ rights, and beyond. These movements pushed boundaries and embraced modern values, shaping society in their time. They sparked creative expression and became powerful catalysts for lasting social change that still resonates today.

As a dynamic space for learning, engagement, and inspiration, the Counterculture Museum will examine the history, challenges, and lasting impact of these movements. Exhibitions will showcase the past, while drawing connections to the present, demonstrating how the ideals and struggles of previous generations carry on today.

We are calling on individuals, organizations, and communities who share our passion for preserving this critical history to support our mission. Your contributions will help ensure that the stories of these movements continue to engage and inspire future generations.

Thank you for your support!
