Help us lay our World Champion to rest - Jesse Cortez Sr.

My dad, Jesse Cortez Sr., was a man who radiated humility and kindness. He had the heart of a champion and the soul of Elvis Presley. No matter what trials life threw his way, he faced them with strength, grace, and unwavering love. Whether he was enjoying the beauty of nature or connecting with the people around him, Papa found joy in every moment. I can still hear him saying, "I'm on top of the world," or "I'm close to heaven," expressing how full his life was, even in the most challenging times.

On December 1st, our world lost this beautiful man. Papa was called home to heaven, but not before spending his final days surrounded by family who loved him deeply. His legacy is one of compassion, kindness, and generosity. He was a coach and mentor to countless young people in the boxing community here on Guam, guiding them with the same care and love he showed to his own children and grandchildren. To so many, he wasn’t just "coach"—he was "Papa Jesse," a loving man who nurtured, guided, and lifted up everyone he met.

As we prepare to say our final goodbyes, I humbly ask for your support. We need assistance bringing our beloved Papa home to Guam from Virginia, so we can lay him to rest and honor his life and spirit in the way he truly deserves. Every contribution—no matter the size—will help us with the costs associated with bringing him home and laying him to rest. If you can’t donate, we ask for your prayers, which are equally just as valuable to us in this time of grief.

If you would like to pay your respects, nightly Rosaries are being said at Our Lady of Lourdes, Yigo at 5:30 p.m., followed by a Mass of Intention at 6:00 p.m. Funeral details will be posted once available.
