Help us make and donate PPE to frontline workers

During this difficult time, Tsunami Glassworks and Soffi Lighting are utilizing their facility and crew to fabricate face shields to do what they can in helping front line workers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

A note from the team: 
We are asking our community to help us purchase the necessary materials to fabricate protective face shields so that we can donate them to front line workers in need. 

*Thanks to the overwhelming support from our community, we have reached our initial fundraising goal and in a few short days have been able to donate over 1000 shields to nursing homes, doctors offices and clinics, paramedics within our area including our own police department. We will continue to keep making these shields as long as there is a need and demand for them.

The Problem

As we have all heard our hospitals and frontline workers are running low on personal protective (PPE) items. They desperately need masks, gloves and face shields to ensure their safety and ability to continue working and help us fight COVID-19.

Due to the overwhelming demand for plastic material in North America, supply chain delays have begun to impact the ability to procure the proper materials to fabricate these shields. In some cases, the lead time on certain components have been pushed into July 2020 setting up a crisis for compounded shortage in PPE for front line workers. This is a real crisis with the expected peak infections predicted to occur over the next couple of months.

Our Solution

Although we specialize in glass and lighting fabrication, the crew at Tsunami Glassworks/Soffi Lighting wish to use its capacity and skill set during this crisis to make protective face shields based on the open source design as put out by Bauer.  In reaction to the accelerated crisis and lack of supplies, and with the generous support through social media, we have been able to make and distribute over 13,000 units, which meet all standards as outlined but the Government of Canada Specifications for COVID-19 CLASS-1 Products.

Our aim is to collect donations so that we can bulk order more material while they are available, and continue to manufacture and distribute the face shields ASAP where they are needed the most.

Your dollars will go directly to purchasing the raw materials needed to drive this initiative forward and to facilitate the distribution of these donations. The materials required include plastic sheet, foam cushioning, fasteners, elastic headbands and packaging. 
 
Distribution of these shields will be driven by first come first demand to organizations and groups such as clinics, nursing homes, food suppliers, etc.  If you have a group in need please contact us.
