This page is dedicated to the fundraising efforts for "Beyond the Compass," a documentary film that celebrates the spirited women of Hurricane Island Outward Bound School (HIOBS) and their unique perspectives on aging. Each year at HIOBS, a community of women age 60 to over 80 years old gather on the rugged Maine coast for an island based sailing expedition. Here they maintain a lifelong love for the outdoors, commune over shared experience, and revel in an incredible desire to keep challenge and adventure part of their lives. Throughout the film, we will follow these women as they embark on their yearly journey to the island where they will explore the terrain, expedition on a 30 foot open pulling boat, and dive deeper into the power of aging and adventure in the process.

The importance of this story begins in a society where women are often told that their stories peak in youth and fade with age. Our culture tends to paint aging as a decline—but within this Outward Bound community, we've witnessed a paradigm of something extraordinary: women growing tougher, wilder, and infinitely more fascinating as they age. Here these women are celebrated, revered as trailblazers of their time. This short film aims to capture a narrative that inspires younger generations to eagerly anticipate their own wrinkles, knowing they signify the emergence of a truly captivating main character. We believe this message isn't just for our community—it's for women everywhere. "Beyond the Compass" aims to ignite a spark of excitement for the journey ahead, encouraging women everywhere to embrace each stage of life with anticipation and joy.
