WE'RE MAKING A SHORT FILM AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The Story
“Memory Foam,” is the debut narrative short-film from the production duo featuring writer Lubomir Rzepka and cinematographer Chris Violette.
The story follows the relationship between aspiring opera singer, Earl Hamilton and NYU nursing student, Abigail Humphrey. Their year-long love story is told through flashbacks on the mattress the couple shared during their time together. The relationship crumbles when Abigail finishes her studies and prepares to move back to Oregon as Earl gets cast in the Metropolitan Opera’s production of The Barber of Seville. Though Earl initially intends to go west with Abigail, his personal ambitions keep him in New York.
Earl finds that he needs a new mattress because the bed he sleeps on incessantly reminds him of his former lover. As he lays down on potential new mattresses, he is transported back to the memories he shared with Abigail on his former bed— painting together in watercolor, listening to a record of Carmen, kissing for the first time. In the end, these memories are far too painful for him to come to any decision at all, and he confines himself to a sleeping bag.
What unfolds is an exploration of how deeply memories can seep into the fabric of a place or an object and how, sometimes, no matter how perfect two people may be for one another, circumstance and ambition can pull them apart.
It is an slice-of-life piece aiming to examine the intensity and breadth of emotion in the smallest of moments captured with unique and wholly idiosyncratic cinematography.
Where will the funds go?
Funding will be used to cover the rental of lenses, audio equipment, and other gear, as well as securing locations (a local mattress store) and ultimately submitting the short film to national and international festivals.
