Help us Mentor the Future Leaders of Africa

***Global Joy Foundation is a registered charity and all donations are tax-deductible in Canada***

*What started as a $20,000 initiative, grew to a $30,000 endeavour as we consider future operations and plan for the sustainability of Global Joy Foundation*

Our first “conference” began as a humble leadership workshop for five African leaders. Yes, that’s right – only five people showed up!

Despite the modest attendance, the first event was wildly transformative. By the second conference, there were 250 attendees, and by the following one, there were 500. Soon the demand was so high that a king of Uganda attended, and we were interviewed by the Uganda Broadcast Corporation with a potential viewership of 13 million.

At these conferences, it became apparent to us that although Africa was filled with complex problems, it also had many eager leaders who wanted to solve them. However, especially in an environment saturated by corruption, it was clear that only leaders with significant integrity, proper resources, and qualified guidance could make a sustainable and scalable impact.

Who are we?
Since our first conference, the Global Joy Foundation has been developing national leaders by providing resources and mentorship to high-potential mentees (predominately in Africa). Our mentees’ hand-picked mentors have been carefully selected based on their proven track records of integrity and impact. They include judges, business leaders, Members of Parliament, professors, ministers, etc. – leaders in roles that will have the most impact on the future of the nation.

We believe that transformed leaders transform nations. By equipping a generation of authentic servant leaders to lead the nation, our hope is that local leaders will become the catalyst for sustainable, national transformation. Rather than a hand-out, the Global Joy Foundation wants to give a hand up to Africa’s capable, trustworthy, and resourceful current and future leaders.

A rising tide raises all ships, and local leaders are that tide!

What will these funds be used for?

1. Conferences
From July 30 to August 11, our team will be travelling to Uganda this year. Most of our funding will be spent facilitating three all-day leadership conferences in Kampala, Jinja, and Kibuku to create new initiatives and connect with new and old strategic partners, mentors and mentees. Expenses include venue, security, transportation (driving between cities), and food costs. If there are any funds left over, we would like to use a portion of the funds towards our plane tickets and accommodations (note that nobody on our team takes any income from the foundation -- we pay for all expenses out-of-pocket).

2. Graduation Ceremony
We will be hosting a graduation ceremony for sponsored mentees who have recently completed university. Although this may seem insignificant if you live in a developed country, this is significant in Africa. For example, in Uganda, the enrollment rate in post-secondary (tertiary) education was 5.1% (UNESECO, 2016). This is in comparison to 76% in Canada, 88% in The USA, and 98.4% in South Korea (UNESCO, 2019). Graduation ceremony expenses include a small venue and food.

3. Scholarships
A portion of the funds will be used to support future high-potential mentees. Many mentees have huge potential, but are often hindered by financial obligations.
