Help Us Move Isa to Safety

My name is Violet and I am the lucky person who Isa calls Mommy. Currently, we live in Texas, a state that has already passed one anti-transgender bill into law in 2021 that mainly harms children (TX House Bill 25.) Greg Abbot and the Texas Senate have made it clear that they have no intention of stopping with a simple sports ban.

 

I am moving Isa to a state that is considered safe for trans people according to the Transgender Law Center's research. A state that won't consider me an abuser when I seek medical care for my trans child and potentially remove her from my custody, as Abbot is proposing. One such place is California.

 

In order to secure housing without proof of employment, I need to have $20k in savings. I am halfway there. This fund will go toward moving expenses and allow me to have the "proof of funds" that landlords require if I don't secure a job before the move, and allow us to start over in a state that sees my child as a human and not a victim.

 

Reaching the goal of $11k would mean a brighter future for my child and allow her to have the quality of life she deserves.

I am absolutely floored by the outpouring of support from everyone and we are beyond grateful! We met the original goal in two hours and as of right now we are at $18k!

I've been advised by many that I should set my sights higher than the original ask, with the intention of putting a down payment on a home or condo. As it would benefit my child to have the stability provided by a permanent place to live, and since the original $11k I had personally saved before this fund was intended for a down payment on a house in Texas, I think they're correct in their assessment.

I'm raising the ask from $11k to $111k to be able to set down roots in an affirming and welcoming state. Thank you again for your incredible support in this stressful situation and I can't wait to set down roots and pay your generosity forward in our new lives!
