The TOM - Tikkun Olam Makers - is a global movement of communities that creates and disseminates affordable solutions to neglected challenges of people living with disabilities.
TOM̀ started with a simple observation that in every society, there is abundance and scarcity living side-by-side. In other words, in every society, you have many talented people with a range of expertise alongside many people who have basic unmet needs (or “neglected challenges”). TOM’s process of innovation brings together the expertise and the needs, allowing a user-focused solution to be created.
 
Your donation will support the launch of TOM FRANCE, the newborn French community! The funds raised will support the organization of the first TOM FRANCE event in May 2022.
 
The event will be a “make-a-thon” (a hackathon of making) that will gather people with disabilities and designers, engineers, and doctors. For a full weekend, they will work in teams to create prototypes that will address neglected challenges faced by people with disabilities. At the end of the weekend, 100 people will have contributed to the making of innovations that address neglected challenges, and 15 of them will leave with solutions that will allow them to live a better life.
 
At the end of the event, all solutions will be shared with the world through TOM’s online platform as open-source solutions. The solutions that are expected to be useful to many will be replicated and sold online at production cost (e.g., previous TOM makeathons gave birth to the first surfboard for people with disabilities, or the cheapest wheelchair ever).

Funds raised will go to TOM FRANCE and will be used to fund the event: venue location, 3D printers locations, purchase of all materials needed for all 15 prototypes; food & drinks; location of tables, chairs, and beds; ... etc.

Les Tikkun Olam Makers, ou TOM, sont une association à but non-lucratif qui utilise l’innovation et les technologies pour répondre aux défis du handicap.

La vision TOM, c’est avant tout réunir deux mondes qui se rencontrent trop peu, et qui pourtant ont tant à s’apporter : le monde des “makers” : les créatifs, les ingénieurs, les designers, les codeurs ; et le monde des “need-knowers” : les personnes qui ont un handicap, et qui connaissent le besoin, qui l’ont identifié, et qui veulent y répondre.

Aujourd’hui, on a besoin de votre aide pour organiser le premier hackathon TOM FRANCE à Paris. Pendant 48 heures non-stop, makers et need-knowers seront ensembles, dans un endroit autour, d’imprimantes 3D et autres technologies pour construire des prototypes révolutionnaires qui embelliront la vie de nos need-knowers.

Tous les prototypes seront ensuite disponibles en open-source pour profiter au plus grand nombre.

Ensemble, faisons de ce projet une réalité : grâce à vos dons, nous pourrons financer l’événement et le matériel nécessaire à la fabrication de tous les prototypes. Vos dons nous serviront notamment à financer : la location de la salle, la location et l'achat des imprimantes 3D, la nourriture et le mobilier nécessaires au bon déroulé du week-end, etc. 

Notre objectif est de collecter 30000 euros en quatre semaines. On compte sur vous, aidez-nous à “réparer le monde” (tikkun okam, de l’hébreu ‘réparation du monde’).
