Help Us Overcome Illegal Eviction Crisis

We are reaching out to our community to help us move through this housing emergency.

Our landlord has illegally evicted us just a few days after receiving our rent payment on June 5th. Friends have now confirmed he has cut our lockbox and removed our belongings from the apartment to a communal basement. He has been ignoring calls, writing harassing messages, and is not being receptive to any of our basic needs/ requests via text/ email.

He is “holding our belongings free of charge until July 31st” and threatening that our return is unauthorized. This is our only home, we wish we had an answer to why on earth someone would do this but we don’t. heartbreaking that paying rent and investing/ respecting/ taking care of spaces even when they are not your own DOES NOT secure you housing in new york city when landlords feel like they are above the law.

Unfortunately, we do not have the funds to support us with this unplanned transition. We had just invested our savings in travel to Morocco for contract work abroad until October, which was going well and providing security through the end of the year, this now cannot be completed. We are trusting that this is all for good reason and grateful we have our love. we know our hearts are pure and our mission is clear. If you have spent time with us, I hope you feel that too.

Please help with what you can and thank you all for your help through this time. Our priority is to get back to New York as soon as possible, to follow the protocols for tenant protection laws (which can only be done in person) and to find a new home to keep growing from.
