Hello World!

Our names are Liz and Garrison and our story is certainly a unique one. Our relationship began during the tumultuous time that was COVID. We left our lives in Los Angeles in the summer of 2020 and began living out of a Subaru Forester and Toyota Highlander... COVID Escape Pods, if you will.

After nearly 18 months of living out of our vehicles, we found ourselves moving to, and falling in love with, Utah. We were fortunate enough to meet the right people who, for the last two years, have rented us their big, beautiful cabin in the mountains at an incredible discount. Over these past couple of years, we have found ourselves truly at home. Unfortunately, our landlords have decided that they are ready to sell their home, and it is well outside of our price range. As a Kindergarten teacher and a ski patroller, our options are limited by our income.

Last autumn, our dear friend and neighbor showed us a cabin a bit further up the mountain, past our current rented property, and deeper into the canyon. There, we discovered the most perfect little red cabin; secluded, cozy, sunbathed, and beautiful. It is small and humble, and the perfect place to hopefully start a family.

As I'm sure many of know, buying a home at this age, in this climate and market, is a largely unattainable goal for the majority of us. Like many other millennials, we are strapped with debt, which makes meeting the 3.5% downpayment requirement quite the challenge.

This gofundme goal amount would allow us to reach that 3.5% mark to put a downpayment towards our first home. Our current lease and housing situation ends on April 30th of this year, and we are hoping to find a way to close the deal on a home by then. As a family with 3 dogs, and hopefully one day, a child, we don't want to be faced with the potential of losing a lease and being forced to find new housing.

Many of you have experienced the magic of Tollgate Canyon, shared meals with us, shared days in our backyard mountains, and seen the wonder and splendor of the land we so cherish. We eloped here, we want to be a family here, we want to be stewards to this place as well as part of it. We don't expect anyone to swoop in and rescue us; rather we hope we can inspire some community spirit and seek many hands to bring us slightly closer to our dream.
