Help us PATCH Don Up: A Fundraiser for Don Carney

If you are a friend of Don’s or a fan of his design studio PATCH NYC, you know about his creative genius, his impressive work ethic, and his dislike of asking for help. That’s why we’ve organized this site to raise the funds necessary to cover Don’s mounting medical expenses and the financial challenge from Don’s inability to work. We have all benefitted from the beauty Don puts into the world through his art. Now it’s our turn to benefit him while he works toward a full recovery.

Don experienced a subarachnoid hemorrhage (bleeding in the brain) on January 13. After evaluation at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford he was rushed by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence where the Brown University-affiliated neurology department was better equipped to handle his case. Due to the seriousness of his situation, Don spent seven days in the neuro-ICU under constant supervision. After multiple MRIs, ultrasounds and angiograms, the source of Don’s bleed has still not been identified. More procedures will likely be necessary following his body’s absorption of the blood in his brain. To make his recovery even more difficult, Don suffered a fall in the hospital which left him with a neck fracture, lower back injury and facial lacerations.

Don and his partner John would never say it like this, but this is very serious, and we need your help. These medical bills are no joke, and as self-employed business owners, Don and John have limited means of covering those expenses. I know you will join me in spreading the word and contributing to get Don through this tough time and back to creating the art and designs we all love.
