Who we are:

Sensory Garden & Play is a program designed to revolutionize our education system; the idea is that a preschooler can learn about weather, trees, and nature beyond a pile of worksheets within four walls. It is meant to cultivate their understanding of nature by actually experiencing it first-hand and developing a deeper connection to their natural environment, all while playing!

About Me:

My name is Chantel Zimmerman, and I have been teaching since 2007. My career began in the Newark school system as a 6th-grade middle school science teacher, and then, in 2014, I had the privilege of working for the Ringwood School District for three years as a third-grade teacher. Both experiences gave me the confidence, knowledge, and perspective to create a program.

Sensory Garden and Play evolved deep within my heart as I raised my twin daughters. My philosophy and foundation for establishing Sensory Garden and Play was not centered around a business model. It 'bloomed' from my heart's intentions and desires for my children's education and the education of the community I serve.

I have cultivated this passion into a small business, a brand with a social media platform and presence (share Instagram), and I continue to advocate for our community through my new role as (name of role) on the Ringwood environmental committee.

Where we need help from the community:

We at Sensory Garden and Play are embarking on a massive mission to revolutionize education for our community. This mission is a journey that requires our community's love, support, and resources.

We have created this GoFundMe page to fund the purchase of Yurts; all the money raised goes towards a yurt, shipping, and windows. This would serve as our program's home base. Our program requires a home base to be able to offer shelter for our classrooms, host community events, and plan and develop our advocacy programs.

In return, we are committed to using our platforms to continue to advocate for changes to legacy systems and processes that no longer serve our children or our community. This investment would fuel the programs that we offer to enrich our community. We would be happy to l keep everyone posted on our journey through Instagram stories and reels so you can see your impact on the lives of our students, parents, and community.
