Help Us Rebuild Emerson UU Chapel

Hi, my name is Krystal Wright and I have been attending Emerson UU for over a year now. I was so impressed when I first attended a Sunday morning meeting. They are so welcoming with smiles and open hearts to all different walks of life. Their community is small, but mighty; in love and inclusion, and a strong sense of community. Their youth programs are amazing and their lessons are always eye opening and inspiring. The members are some of the most fun, respectful, and joyful people I’ve ever met!

I am writing this today to bring together the help and support to rebuild the beloved Emerson community building and maintaining our community programs, meetings, and offerings.

On April 13th, 2024, around 1:30pm there was a car accident ending with damage to the building from a vehicle tearing through the wall of the southern side of Emerson UU Chapel in St. Charles, Mo. at Fifth St. and Jefferson St. The driver of that vehicle was taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, we do not have more information at this time. We wish them a full recovery and are concerned for their well-being. The damage from the vehicle has completely demolished the sanctuary where we held our church and community gatherings, shattering windows, destroying books, chairs, and our computer and sound equipment we used for meetings and on Zoom.

This news has been devastating to many. As of right now, plans have been made to gather community members to help salvage what we can and get all belongings removed from the structure and relocated. We will need help cleaning up the debris and damage, broken chairs, etc. and finding a new place to continue services.

The goal is to raise $70,000 and that is how much it costs to operate for a year at Emerson, through services, meetings, adult programs and our youth RE program.
