May peace be upon you. My name is Lina Sheikha, and I am 22 years old. I study geographical information systems, and my family and I dream of living in peace and security. I call upon your humanity to help us achieve this dream.
The debris you see is not just a house that was bombed and destroyed; it represents memories buried forever. I was born and raised in this house in the Gaza Strip, alongside my family of seven. Despite the wars, we lived here in peace, striving to achieve our dreams with the limited resources we had. However, the Israeli occupation has waged wars against our simple aspirations. For the past eight months, we have lived in constant horror and destruction. My university was bombed, and many of my professors and colleagues were killed. I was about to graduate, but now my education is on hold.
My father, who is 54 years old, is a remarkable man. He spent his life working hard to provide for us and help us reach our goals. Unfortunately, he lost the home he worked tirelessly to build and the job that sustained us. My mother is devastated by what has happened and the dreams that have vanished under this genocide.
My brother Mohamed dreamed of becoming an accountant at a bank, and my younger brother was close to graduating high school. My little sister, Dunia, is desperate to return to school. My older sister, Dina, had her first baby, Lana, during this genocide. Tragically, Lana’s father has not been able to see or hold her since she was born, as he has had to stay in Northern Gaza to care for and protect his parents.
We are deprived of our basic rights—education, proper food, and safety—due to the continuous bombardment and destruction. I call upon your humanity and kindness to help us raise $80,000. This amount will allow us to travel and start again in a normal, healthy life, safer and more stable, away from wars, and hopefully we can restore our beautiful days that were wasted under the rubble.
