Help us Rebuild the Danish Brotherhood!
The Danish Brotherhood is heartbroken and devastated by the unanticipated loss of our Lodge. The outpouring of support and messages from our family, friends, and the community has not gone unnoticed. Our membership is greatly appreciative. The membership of the Lodge has a long road ahead of us. Insurance will not be enough to cover the expenses we are becoming inundated with. Gudskelov ! We have recovered some priceless photos and documents. However, the cost to repair the priceless photos and documents alone are amounting to an incomprehensible amount.
On August 24th, 2020 the Danish Brotherhood Lodge #14 succumbed to arson and looting during the Kenosha riots. We have been part of this community for many generations and would like to keep that going. We know times are hard but we are asking for help so we can rebuild our lodge and continue to be part of the community. Many of you know our infamous danish breakfast or maybe our bingo nights. For us members this was our second home and a place where families shared new and old memories. It’s been a place where couples shared a special day with their loved ones and a place where kids get to enjoy a special Santa visits every Christmas. The Danish has always been a community gathering spot for so many. So with a little help from family and friends I think we can get our home back up and running.
Chief amongst our concerns at the moment is the expedient recovery of our Brother Robert Cobb. Robert was viciously assaulted while trying to defend our friend and tenant's mattress shop as well as the Lodge last night. We ask the community to keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he recuperates.
The irreparable damage done to our building pales in comparison to the loss of the heritage and history contained within. Though we can never replace the memories, photos, and records. We will cherish the remembrances of the aforementioned articles and enthusiastically look forward to producing new ones.
The Danish Brotherhood has weathered many storms in our 128 year history and we will strive to keep up that fervent resolve. The Board in discussions thus far, favors striving to move forward and keep the spirit of our organization alive. This shouldn’t be the last memory we have of our beloved lodge! Our ancestors started this club 128 years ago. Our immediate and extended family has been an integral part of it since the beginning. The club has always been a place of fellowship and friendship. The club has had its financial difficulties in the past but because of our members we always pulled through. We need to keep our danish heritage alive and well in our community. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
We hope that the community will join us in our effort to rebuild. We hope the community can come together as a whole and heal itself despite the chaos that has been unfolding around us. Lodge #14 will endeavor to rebuild despite all of the challenges we have faced this year and we hope that others impacted by the recent violence will be able to do the same.
Thank you all! SKOL!
