BGE Transformer Explosion - Please Help us Recover
Donation protected
Hello friends, family and all inquiring about our recovery from our house fire. You may have heard last year that while my brother Caleb and I were sleeping on April 6, 2022, a faulty BGE transformer exploded and set our house on fire. This is our family home of 40 + years. We have been displaced in temporary housing for the past 11 months and insurance money for this temporary apartment runs out March 31st, 2023. The explosion caused at least $225,000 worth of fire and smoke damage which exceeds our insurance policy limit by $80,000 and counting. Though the video obviously shows it is a BGE caused fire, we are currently forced to pay the $80,000 out-of-pocket in order to move back into our home by the 1-year, April 2023 deadline.
Our insurance company, Allstate, pursued BGE, proved their equipment malfunctioned but did NOT succeed in forcing BGE to pay for damages. We are still searching for a lawyer to pursue BGE independently while Allstate refuses to pay above our policy limit.
Many thanks to those who contributed to the $5,000 in donations we received soon after the fire last year. We have pulled together these donations and personal funds to complete 60% of our house but we still need $45,000 (of the $80,000) to pass final city inspections and make it 100% livable again by April 2023!
Many thanks to those who have supported and sustained us in various ways throughout this intense journey! If you feel willing and able we would greatly appreciate your help in any of the following 7 ways:
1) A financial donation via GoFundMe to meet our $45,000 goal by April 2023.
2) Information about any emergency/financial hardship grants to meet our $45,000 goal by April 2023.
3) A lawyer referral to pursue BGE for damages (especially a plaintiff lawyer who is open to working on contingency).
4) Month-month rental housing. Allstate is refusing to pay for temporary housing after March 31st. Starting in April we will then have to pay out of pocket.
5) Have you seen a BGE transformer explode in Baltimore? Please share your story with us! BGE needs to be held accountable for their dangerous faulty equipment!
6) Complain to local Baltimore media about faulty BGE transformers/equipment and ask them to launch an investigation!
7) We welcome any positive thoughts and prayers of encouragement during this overwhelming, exhausting and “transform-ative” year. Thank you!!
