Help Us Recover From Lost Federal Funding

Tax deductible
The Douglas County Historical Society is a non-profit organization committed to preserving Douglas County heritage and encouraging civic engagement by sharing stories of the people and events that have shaped our communities. We are celebrating our 50th anniversary this year, and serve as an important cultural institution and community resource in Douglas County. We are committed to sharing the 'whole history' of our community, including both the triumphs and struggles of the fight for freedom and equality of all people.

On April 8th, our approved grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services that funded an educational project and teacher resources for grades 3-12 on the Underground Railroad was terminated due to the "President's Executive Order 14238 Continuing the Reduction of the Federal Bureaucracy".

This project and related resources were deemed to "no longer serve the interest of the United States" per IMLS communication. The final payment of $13,000 of approved funds will not be disbursed by the federal government. Your donation helps us recover costs and maintain these resources. Thank you for your support of our work to interpret this important history and make these resources available to teachers and students in our community.
