Charles Montgomery aka BBoy Goku has been a major component in Fresno's Hip Hop history. Goku is an internationally known Bboy, who has not only won many titles, but has also judged and competed in the most prestigious events in the U.S. And for the past 11 years his polished teaching skills and mentorship of over 200 students in his home studio has kept Breakin' alive.
Now it's time for a bigger place.
Why is this important:
- Fresno youth need an outlet thats accessible and affordable. According to a recent report, over half of Fresno's youth live in poverty, and only has around 5 recreation centers available for every 100,000 youth. This demonstrates the need for more recreational outlets for our youth. With your help, we can help youth of Fresno stay active, involved and inspired by Hip Hop culture.
- The preservation of Hip Hop and Breakin' culture is essential, especially now with the inclusion of the dance in the upcoming US Olympics. This makes it even more important to be mindful and evaluate current instructors ensure only qualified, experienced and professional individuals are teaching. Charles is the only professional BBoy in Fresno.
Currently we are raising $20,000 to help cover the first two years of the SCMX dance school in a new location. Your contributions will also allow us to install safe floors and mirrors, purchase sound and dance equipment, cover all teaching artist fees, offer student scholarships and provide overall studio care and maintanance.
We open the doors to all youth, and be able to offer scholarships to the many youth who do not have the access. In addition to weekly classes and open sessions, SCMX will also present two FREE dance events to the community that will focus on engagement, exhibition and respectful competition among Fresno's youth each year.
Thank you for taking the time, and hope you will join us in building our new SCMX Hip Hop Academy
