Help Us Repair Bronzeville's Nat King Cole Mural
Donation protected
My name is Chris Devins . I am a Chicago, IL based Artist/Urban Planner known for large, outdoor murals of A. Philip Randolph , Rashid Lynn (Common) , Juice Wrld,
Lorraine Hansberry , Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong and the Bronzeville Marianos Fence and Photo Wall, Chatham 2.0, Hyde Park Heroes , and other community Art initiatives that portray south side Chicagoans in a positive light. My work has recently been featured on WGN's Backstory, in the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Complex, Fox TV, NBC, CBS, Chicago Jewish News, The Times of Israel, New York Times, Daily Mail, LA Times and many other media outlets, bringing much needed attention to the south side of Chicago's cultural scene.
I am seeking to raise $2000 in community support to restore Bronzeville's iconic Nat King Cole mural, located on the corner of 43rd and King Dr, In Chicago. Originally created on July 21, 2014, the mural was part of a mutli-mural Identity campaign called the Bronzeville Legends Initiative, which includes the "Stations" murals on 39th and Michigan, the A. Philip Randolph mural at the Pullman museum and others.
The objective of the project is to be a catalyst for five critical community development elements: 1) Arts and Culture Awareness. 2) Education. 3) Community Pride and Inspiration. 4) Improved Safety Perception. 5) Tourism. The murals celebrate Bronzeville’srich historic Identity and attract visitors to the community.
The mural has fallen into disrepair. I can return it to mint condition for about $3000. I will donate my skills and $1000 of my own money toward the mural rehabilitation. Once there is enough money to begin, the rehabilitation will be completed by Summer.
I plan on matching some of the funds donated by the community and to raise additional funds from local community organizations.
I hope that by continuing to embed arts and culture into Chicago's south side, I can help protect it's cultural Identity, bridge social differences, elevate the voices of existing residents and support future development.
If you like what you see, support, believe and make a donation.
I can’t tell you how grateful we will be for your donation. Thank you.
