Help us restart after devastating apartment fire

Hi, our names are Misael and Vivian. As a student in a firefighter academy, a paid on call Fire fighter and an EMT I’ve learned first hand about the devastation and emotional turmoil that a fire can cause. I could have never imagined that one day we would be victims of such a tragedy. To lose everything has been devastating, but losing peace of mind that it could happen at any time without warning is even worse.

We we’re both visiting family out of state, with our dog Buzz, when the fire erupted, and weren’t notified until several hours after it ended. Unfortunately our kitten Woody and tortoise Mac were still in our home throughout the incident. Miraculously they survived with very few injuries and rescued by the wonderful fire department that I’m a member of. An amazing member of the department and his family have gone above and beyond to help us nurse Woody back to health and gave him a place to stay while we look for a permanent residence.

Unfortunately our insurance isn’t going to cover any of the losses and we are forced to start from square one. We have been graciously helped by friends, coworkers and families already beyond what we ever thought we ever could deserve. So asking for more help leaves us feeling guilty knowing there are so many others who could use it as well. We will do our best to give back as much as possible someday to fire and disaster survivors, now knowing the pain and suffering it can cause. Thank you
