Help us restore the oldest building in Patten
Donation protected
I am starting a fundraiser to help restore the oldest public building in the town of Patten, Maine. The building has a rich history dating back to 1845. The building served as the Regular Baptist Church from its completion until 1928, until it became the Veteran's Memorial Library. It remained a much loved part of our community as a library until 2020, when the town of Patten considered the building to be not up to code for public use. The building in all of its years was empty until 2023, when it was acquired by the Patten Historical Society preservation committee to try revitalize the building to once again serve the town as a community center.
The former church building continues to show wonderfully hand painted ceilings and walls which have remained intact for over 175 years, beautiful wood work that has been preserved and large stained glass windows that were a hall mark of Patten in years gone by.
The building itself is in need of repairs, such as a newer roof, foundation work and furnace repair. I am a part of our town's preservation committee, and am hoping anyone can help donate to help save this beautiful and structurally sound building.
