AI and ML Club: Help Us Learn BCI To Help Disabled People
Donation protected
EXCITING NEWS: OpenBCI has generously offered to support the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Club’s work in the field of assistive technology by matching all donations to our fundraiser up to $1500! Any contribution you make will now be DOUBLED, so if you are as passionate about improving the lives of people with mobility impairments as we are, please donate, repost this announcement, and share our fundraiser with your friends!
Millions of people in the US live with mobility impairments. We hope to change that. My name is Mathew Xie. I, along with Mark Raspopov, Matthew Floresca Tom, Lori Krekorian, and Alston Tang, founded the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Club at California State University, Los Angeles. I serve as the treasurer of the club. The club is open to all California State University, Los Angeles students. Anyone can join us in studying the field of AI and its applications to better our society. The club's primary purpose is to research and understand the workings of AI and create projects as a team.
Recently, we became interested in BCI, brain-computer interfaces. BCI technology directly allows the brain’s electrical activity to communicate with computer devices like robotic limbs. We hope to focus on creating a project with BCI to help disabled people. The idea is to use AI to detect patterns in brainwave activity that correspond with everyday actions, like walking. The AI model will then be able to detect when a disabled person intends to walk, and an external system will help the disabled person act. BCI technology will revolutionize the way we deal with disabilities by allowing disabled people to regain their independence. We hope to contribute to the emerging field through our project.
We plan to work on several smaller projects to learn how to use the BCI equipment. We will start by moving the cursor of a mouse and then move on to driving a small car/drone. With enough experience, we will work on helping the disabled.
The BCI equipment we intend to buy, OpenBCI's Complete Ultracortex, costs $3,000 tax-included. A link is provided here (https://shop.openbci.com/products/the-complete-headset-eeg?variant=44401725997296). To bring our ideas to life, we need to raise $3,000. We kindly ask for your help in pursuing our dreams of improving the lives of people with disabilities and changing the world with AI. Without the BCI equipment, we can’t work on our goal. We also need additional money for our website, subscriptions, components, development and other projects.
My legal guardian will handle the funds, as I am 16. Thank you for contributing!
