Help Us Rise From The Ashes Of A Tragic Fire

Donation protected

On Tuesday, September 22th, tragedy struck my family when a fire broke out and destroyed the home I share with my mother and two dogs in upstate New York .
Within less than15 minutes, our beautiful home, where so many wonderful memories were created, countless stories were shared, and birthdays were celebrated was rendered a pile of ash and rubble. More than a home, this was also were we worked and conducted business, storing merchandise, filling orders and teaching classes.

Filled with family heirlooms, beautiful pieces of art and furniture that my mother and father gathered through their travels, together with family photos tracing the history of my youth awaiting  to be passed on hopefully from generation to generation. This tragedy erased the possibility of that dream ever happening.

Started in 1989 and built humbly through the years, Les Herbes, ltd. and The American Institute for Aromatherapy & Herbal Studies was my mother's dream. The business acquired many students and an incredible collection of essentials oils and valuable books in different languages, many out of print, irreplaceable and invaluable to the students and professionals who depended on them to further there love and knowledge of Aromatherapy. All of that was destroyed by the fire.  She is in the process of finishing to write a course with her mentor in England. This has been put on an indefinite hold

You can say that my mother is a Renaissance woman.  She loves to learn and knows many things.  When she s interested in something, she will go wherever she needs to,  in order to get as much knowledge as possible about a subject, taking classes, traveling, through a teaching manual, and any possible means of learning. My mother has always been a brilliant artist and over the past 10 years she has been involved in producing amazing mosaic art work. She manually cuts every piece for her work. Some of her art pieces were sold to businesses,  and others to private patrons.  Her love for beautiful glass led her to source and stock many sheets of  glass, mainly from Italy. Bird houses, murals and tables which took countless hours to cover were crafted with her amazing ideas and unique style. Unfortunately her workshop, inventory of glass as well as completed and uncompleted pieces  were all lost as well.

Gopooja was started several years ago with a trip to India. My mother saw an opportunity to import many unique items and offer them for sale back here in the US. She dedicated so much time and attention to finding amazing items from handmade jewelry, to hand-sewn silk dresses and shirts. Most everything was one of a kind and had a unique story to tell. Over the pass few months she has been readying the items for sale on her new website that was close to completion, unfortunately those items were also lost in the blaze, and she finds herself unable to cover the balance of the cost of designing the website.

As I said before, this was so much more than a home. It was a place that housed our livelihood. It was an art studio where amazing and unique things were created. It was classroom to teach students about natural healing. It had an amazing gourmet kitchen where mouth watering meals were created and fresh bread was baked almost daily. So many amazing things happened there and are now forever gone.

Tragically, our super loving, adorable puppy, Sushi perished in the fire. He is survived by his big brother Kimchi, who along with my mother and I are heartbroken by his passing.

When a tragic accident occurs, like the one we are experiencing, you think that as long as no one was seriously injured, the insurance will help replace the things that were lost. That could be true for some things, but many, many things were invaluable to us and hard to put a price on. Other, important things are just not covered at all, like the vehicle.  It was off the road and in the garage due to me still recovering from my horrific accident last year, so there was no active motor vehicle insurance on it. Unfortunately even though it was in the dwelling at the time of the fire, the insurance will not cover  it.  It too is a total loss.

My parents always taught me how important it is to have an open heart and to do everything in your life with love. I am humbly asking you to show some love and help us rebuild the life that was tragically taken from us on September 22nd. Things will never be the same, nothing and no dollar amount can bring back everything that was lost that day, but with a little help from you we can rebuild and start a new life filed with new laughs , new memories and lots of love.

Thank you so much for all the love and support

Eric
