Hello, friends and supporters! We would like to start by expressing our gratitude for your continued support.
My name is Jabari Natur (Corey McDaniels), the owner & proprietor of Conscious Heads Barbershop/ Bootcamp and Apprenticeship Program, a cornerstone of our beloved Black community.
For 24 years, this barbershop has been a place for haircuts, a safe haven for our youth, a training ground for aspiring barbers, and a community hub where dreams are nurtured.
The shop is committed to serving those residing and working in distressed communities, as we have successfully trained multiple barbers in preparation for the Maryland State Board License. This preparation has led to producing numerous Master Barbers---placing them at the highest level of Barbering.
Unfortunately, we have experienced a significant hardship with the building foundation.
We often have leaks that affect our daily business operations and programming. This problem has led to our overall structure deteriorating and rotting in some areas.
The biggest concern is that the water damage could turn into mold and ultimately affect our clients and youth enthusiastically participating in the barber boot camp.
The Challenge
Unfortunately, like many small businesses, we have faced unprecedented challenges due to the ongoing pandemic and economic downturn of our beloved city of Baltimore.
While our customer base has remained steady, the building has been affected by a significant disinvestment amid multiple budget cuts for blighted communities in Baltimore, Maryland.
Therefore, despite our best efforts, we struggle to keep the doors open to operate efficiently, sustain our client base, and support underprivileged communities.
Our building is over 100 years old and is considered a historic property.
The age of this building coupled with the strain of resource allocation for disinvested communities—the property is in a vulnerable state for significant repairs and restoration.
More importantly, the impact of losing Conscious Heads Barbershop/Bootcamp and Apprenticeship Program as we know it as functioning would be devastating for our
dedicated team and the entire community that relies on us.
How You Can Help
We seek to raise $50,000 to cover construction costs to increase infrastructure.
This funding will also enable us to:
- Provide quality services to underprivileged community members.
- Provide training and apprenticeship programs for aspiring barbers.
- Host community events that bring us all closer together.
