Help us save Pakistan from drowning
“The water came, and now everything is gone. No food, no clothing, no shelter.”
“Pakistan is awash in suffering; let's stop sleepwalking towards the destruction of our planet by climate change. Today, it is Pakistan. Tomorrow, it could be your country.”- UN Secretary-General
Pakistan, a nation drowning underwater, is facing an extreme humanitarian crisis that requires immediate assistance. A third of Pakistan is underwater (for comparison, that is the size of the UK).
This is an urgent appeal to provide some initial relief to those affected.
Monsoon rains aggravated by climate change have demolished both Sindh and Balochistan’s infrastructure and killed more than 1150 people. Currently, they have already destroyed 700,000 homes and impacted more than 33 million people.
I’m a student at St Paul's School in London and am raising money for the Citizens Foundation (TCF).
TCF is Pakistan's largest education charity. Since its inception in 1995, TCF has professionally built and supported schools for underprivileged children in urban and rural slums across Pakistan. Almost 30 years ahead, we run 1,652 school units educating over 266,000 students with almost 50% female enrolment.
What has been done so far, and where is the money going?
Our ongoing flood relief operations involve focusing on the following essentials:
1. Health: Aquatab water purification tablets, Mobile hospitals for disease prevention, Tele-mental health restarted
2. Food: We intend to provide 1 million meals to affected families by providing cooked food, rations and energy packs.
3. Hygiene: Dignity kits for women, sanitisers, soaps
4. Shelter: Help reconstruct homes for 5000 families in addition to providing mosquito nets, tents, tarpaulins, plastic sheets
Additionally, due to the rapid outbreaks of dengue and malaria from the stagnant contaminated water, a large proportion of the funding will be allocated towards water purification tablets and mosquito nets. The Aquatab water purification tablets kill microorganisms in water, therefore reducing plastic bottle waste, opting for sustainable water distribution.
How can we help?
TCF-UK is the UK chapter which aims to raise awareness and funds for TCF in Pakistan. We are a UK registered charity (Registered Charity No. 1087864).
