Help Us Save Whispers Estate

My name is Kim. I'm a volunteer with Whispers Estate. I've been visiting the house for a little over four years now, and like many people, have fallen in love with the beauty and history of the house.

Whispers Estate needs our help. The roof desperately needs to be repaired. During a recent storm, part of the roof was blown off. The insurance will not cover the costs.

I would love to see Whispers remain open for everyone to visit, but this expense is significant. Without the repairs, Whispers could be forced to close. Please donate if you can. Please share if you cannot donate. Help us save Whispers! I have permission from the owner, Rich Ballard. All funds will be sent directly to Rich.

I wanted to add, for those that may not know, Rich is one of the most generous and hard working men I know. He loves the house and puts so much into it. He has not pocketed any profit from the house since owning it. All revenue has been saved or put right back into the house. He keeps the refrigerator stocked with soda and water, buys flashlights, and other gear for guests to use, he has installed heating and air conditioning on the second floor and attic, installed a new front porch, replaced two toilets and an entire drain pipe, and most recently replaced the ceiling in the Doctor's office on the first floor. I've seen the grocery and supply costs, I've helped him organize receipts for his tax person, and know that even though he's keeping the cost to guests as low as possible, his costs just keep increasing. Rich did not ask me to do this, but consented when I asked if I could try to help. I appreciate everyone who shares this or donates.

The picture attached shows what we can see from the ground. The neighbors reported a larger portion of the roof raised up and then came back down. Due to the height of the house, we have not yet been able up get all the way up there to get pictures yet. The first estimate was completed on 6/27 and the repairs are estimated to cost $38,000. There are two more estimates to be done next week.
