Help us Set Up a Community Center for Afghans
Tax deductible
Our Afghan community, composed of long-time residents and newcomers alike, is seeking a community center where it can establish its presence in northeast Ohio and build connections amongst our members and throughout the region. To fulfill this goal, The Afghan Community Association purchased and trying to renovate a building, a former unused house of worship, that will act as the center of our community.
This Afghan Community Center will act as a home for a community of Afghans living in Ohio with the belief that we need to be recognized, respected, and honored as people who have done and will do great deeds for our community. Here, the Afghan Community Association can deliver direct support and education to assist in adjusting to life in the United States, as well as activities that help to preserve and promote Afghan culture and traditions and create opportunities for individuals and the collective community to thrive in their new community.
The building we have purchased is located at 4308 Pearl Rd, Cleveland, OH 44109. Situated in Old Brooklyn, this building is easily accessible and boasts ample space to accommodate religious, cultural, and educational programs.
The initial budget for the Afghan Community Center includes the following estimates:
$265,000.00 Building Renovation and improvements
About the Afghan Community Association
Founded in 2022, The Afghan Community Association connects and engages a community of Afghans living in Ohio, seeking opportunities for individuals and the collective community to thrive in their new homes. This includes a variety of activities involving.
Cultural programs: Providing language and Afghan cultural courses to youth within and beyond the community, including celebrations that build opportunities that celebrate our people, ethnicity, and religion.
Educational programs: Educating our newfound friends, neighbors, and refugees gives them the most significant opportunity for success. Providing a foundation of the English language, math, and essential parts of American history will help them assimilate into our society and the workforce. Ultimately, this foundation will create better avenues for success in their new home of Cleveland.
Religious activities: Festivities & religious celebrations can be one of the most uplifting parts of private and public sector events. Celebrating the social practices of our new community members can help build and strengthen the totality of our neighborhoods, counties, and cities.
