Why Does Children's Mental Health Matter?
Reaching developmental and emotional milestones, acquiring positive social skills, and learning how to deal with challenges are all part of growing up mentally well. Children who are mentally healthy enjoy life more and are better able to thrive at home, at school, and in their communities.
Why Do Parents' Mental Health Matter?
Children's mental health is correlated with that of their parents. According to a recent study, 1 in 14 children have a caregiver that suffers from poor mental health. In order to support their children's mental health, parents, including other caregivers who play the role of parent, need support.
Who Are We And What Are We Trying To Do?
The mission of the Childhood Mental Health Foundation, otherwise known as Sheldon And Friends, is to provide resources and support to children and families, starting the conversation about mental health in an accessible and engaging way. We seek to destigmatize mental health conversations by offering children's mental health books and educational video series with puppets, cartoons, and original music that both engage and empower families to begin open, honest dialogues about their mental health. Through our resources, we seek to support and guide the well-being of our young generation.
The Sheldon and Friends’ book series was designed to start the conversation about mental health and are written to be understood by both children and adults. Our goals and hopes are to encourage our future generations to be more aware of their mental health, but also to be able to verbalize how they feel as opposed to showing it physically. We want them to know that they are loved, unique, special individuals and that they are not alone. Mental health is real for all ages and should be taken seriously. Through these books, we can help start the conversation and get people to find the assistance they need.
Physical and mental well-being go hand in hand. Normalizing the discussion of mental health gives people the confidence to speak up and receive the assistance they require. Health on both the physical and mental levels is crucial and strongly related. Talking openly about mental health from a young age can help to develop positive habits, maintain a strong mental well-being, and help combat the stigma attached to it.
Join us in helping to start the mental health conversation by generously donating. We hope to raise $75,000 by the end of the year so that we can reach more families and individuals. This will contribute to creating more books and video content for this cause.
