Help Us Support Anakin’s Recovery Journey

On May 11th, our lives changed forever when my son was involved in the tragic incident at the Goddard Walmart shooting. He sustained severe injuries, including a bullet wound that punctured his duodenum (upper part of the small intestine) and damaged his spinal cord, causing loss of sensation from the waist down. Despite undergoing four surgeries and intense medical care, his recovery journey is just beginning, and we need your help.
Our Story
My son is a vibrant young man with a bright future. However, his life took a dramatic turn on that fateful day. The bullet caused significant damage to his body, necessitating the fusion of his L1, L2, and L3 spinal bones. Since the incident, he has endured unimaginable pain and hardship, yet his spirit remains unbroken.
After spending three weeks at St. Francis, he has recently been transferred to the Madonna Rehabilitation Facility in Omaha to address his spinal cord injury. The road to recovery will be long and challenging, requiring extensive physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), and skilled nursing care. Our primary goal is to help him reintegrate into the community and live as normal as possible.
The Challenges
Currently, he is experiencing a loss of sensation in his lower extremities, and while the prognosis remains uncertain, we are holding onto hope for his recovery. The financial burden of this journey is immense. Medical expenses are mounting rapidly, and we are bracing for future costs related to his ongoing care and rehabilitation.
Additionally, our family will frequently travel from Wichita to Omaha to support him throughout his recovery. These trips add another layer of financial strain as we strive to be there for him every step of the way.
How You Can Help
We are humbly reaching out to our community, friends, and compassionate individuals for support. Your generous contributions will directly impact his recovery by covering:
- Immediate medical expenses and surgeries
- Ongoing rehabilitation and therapy sessions
- Skilled nursing care
- Travel expenses for the family to provide support
- Adaptive equipment and home modifications for his new needs
Our Gratitude
Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to ensuring he gets the care and support he needs. We are eternally grateful for any assistance you can provide. If you cannot donate, your prayers and shares of this campaign are equally valuable in spreading the word.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, generosity, and support during this incredibly challenging time. Together, we can help my son navigate this difficult journey and give him the best chance at a hopeful future.
