Help Sustain Workers Transport Bicycle Cooperative

Workers Transport Cooperative is a bicycle and bikeshare repair, services, and education cooperative based out of Brooklyn, NY. Over the years we have gone through multiple iterations in attempts to lay down roots in both the co-op world and the bike world simultaneously. We started and still maintain bikeshare systems. We launched a pilot for a cooperative bicycle food delivery service. We’ve worked with e-bike fleets in maintenance and education. And, most recently, we operated Bed Stuy Bikes retail repair shop from 2019-2024. Through all of these adventures one thing remains constant, we strive to provide an alternative example of operating a business in the bike industry and within capitalism at large. We aim to build and add to the communities we serve, not extract and profit from them. We firmly believe in bicycles as a mode of public transportation and infrastructure crucial to cities planning to honestly address climate change. And we believe in labor solidarity and worker ownership.

In 2024 and beyond, we are refocusing on our contract based maintenance services at Stony Brook University Wolf Ride bicycle share, pop up repair events, and with the Department of Transportation at Open Streets events this Spring and beyond. These events will all be free for our neighbors and happening in multiple boroughs beyond Brooklyn! We also still have our eyes set on starting New York’s first bicycle mechanic trade school when the funding and time is right.

What this fundraiser will help us with: Sustainability. We hope to continue expanding our cooperative and providing as many low or no cost education and maintenance services to our communities, but as a cooperative, it is very difficult to access funding in traditional ways. So, we are asking those who are excited to see a solidarity based business survive and expand in the bike world and in New York City at large to donate to our campaign and help sustain us at Workers Transport.
