Help Us Sustain a Creative Community Resource

Desert Island is a small independent store featuring artist-made comics and art books in Brooklyn for sixteen years. A neighboring business approached our landlord and offered almost double our rent.
It’s difficult to swallow our pride and ask for your assistance, but many people have said they don’t want to lose this resource. If you’ve ever benefited from our existence, learned about a favorite artist, found an amazing book, or had fun at one of our free events, please consider kicking in a buck or two. Your support allows us to continue to serve and support the international art underground.
A three-year lease will be a total of $201,600.00, and we are $79,200 short. These are projected amounts based on our current ability to pay vs. actual projected rent. We are trying to raise this deficit by October 15 in an effort to remain in business.
Full disclosure: There is a chance that we could move to a new location, and in that case, these funds would finance the transition, build-out, and new lease.
Stretch goal: with money in excess of our goal, we’ll edit and publish a free comics anthology in which all the artists get paid.
