About
Thousands of working donkeys are suffering in Zambia right now due to abuse and neglect. The Zambezi Working Donkey Project need your help to save these donkeys in urgent need of care by supporting our rescue and rehabilitation centre and enabling us to educate more owners.
Why we need your help
The Covid-19 crisis has affected every aspect of life in Zambia, and as always it is the working animals who suffer most.
ZWDP has been determined to continue reaching working donkeys throughout the crisis. We are visiting donkeys and owners in their villages, providing education and training, and running a drop-in clinic at our rescue centre in town. We also patrol the market areas where some of the most abused donkeys are found. Our rescue centre is now stretched to capacity.
We are a very small team and it takes a huge amount of resources to reach the whole community. We desperately need your support to reach the thousands more donkeys in urgent need of help.
Meet Black
Black was brought to a ZWDP outreach clinic at Kasiya village. She had been tied up by barbed wire around her leg, causing her extreme suffering and half her hoof to disintegrate. She was in so much pain that she couldn’t even feed her foal. Your support enabled the ZWDP outreach team to save Black's life and bring her to our rescue centre. She now walks with a limp but will never have to face that torture again.
A donation of:
£5 will pay to feed a rescued donkey for two weeks.
£10 will pay for one donkey to receive vital veterinary treatment.
£20 will pay for us to modify a scotch cart and replace a cruel ox-yoke with proper harnesses.
£35 will pay for the training of a ZWDP Community Livestock Officer who will work with us to educate owners and monitor donkey welfare.
£60 will pay to rescue and rehome a donkey who is too injured, sick or old to work.
£80 will pay to respond to one emergency call, saving sick, injured and abused donkeys.
