Help us to protect an ancient forest and its natural waters!

Hi everyone,

We are Merel and Juan Esteban. A Dutch/Colombian couple that has worked for 7 years in ecotourism, sustainable living and alternative medicines and continues to do so.

Together, we created a foundation called “Golden Hummingbird” that stands for the protection of forest and water from cattle and monoculture farming.

Right now, we are in the process of buying 18 hectares of land, half of which is ancient forest with two water sources.

Our aim is to create a living community on the land, inspiring people to live more sustainable and to give the forest added protection by becoming a reservation under Colombian law.

By doing this, Golden Hummingbird contributes to the development of life in harmony with the natural environment and other living beings. 

With the help of our ecotourism project, we want to share this space, to show and inspire people around the world about community life, planting organic food and the environmental protection activities that the Golden Hummingbird develops in the territory.

These developments are essential because healthy forests play an important role in the global water cycle, they also contribute to ensuring the Colombian population's water supply and cool the local climate. At the same time, Colombia's natural landscape is protected from erosion, land loss, landslides and desertification.

We are asking for support to finalize this process. The money we are raising is for the last part of the payment: to have the land on the name of the foundation. This ensures the land is considered a reservation under Colombian law, that it is protected and cannot be sold again for other purposes.

As part of our community vision, we also offer the possibility to invest in a living space on the land.
