Who is Muscat Dog Adoption?

We (MDA) are a dog rescue organisation established in 2012 and run by a group of dog-loving volunteers in Muscat, Oman. We aim to rescue abandoned and injured dogs in Muscat and then rehome them in Oman or abroad. Once in our care, the dogs receive necessary veterinary treatment such as vaccinations against diseases, neutering/spaying, worm and flea treatment and any other treatment that may be required.

From 2012-2022, we had a makeshift pound which was a safe refuge to keep the newly rescued dogs off the streets while we looked for their forever homes but this closed down in July 2022.

We then opened a new shelter in December 2022 which was a home to 43 rescued wadi dogs. We spent over 2500 OMR making it a safe and dog proof location to house our dogs. However, we were told by the authorities that we needed to remove the dogs because the new shelter location is a farm and dogs are not supposed to be kept there, only livestock.

We currently have 14 dogs at our farm however we have been told that we can no longer rent the piece of land we are renting after January 2025. So, we are desperately looking for homes abroad or rescues abroad to take the dogs into their care for rehoming. We currently don't have a plan B for the dogs :(

Adoptions are pretty much non-existent in Oman therefore we send most of our dogs abroad to find their forever homes. This is expensive though, especially since August 1st 2024 when the CDC changed the rules again.

The difficulty of animal rescue in Oman:

Oman has no animal welfare laws yet; consequently, there is no government funding for charities or shelters. It is, therefore, very challenging rescuing animals with limited resources.

The difficulty of rehoming our dogs in Oman:

Wadi dogs are not popular in Oman and are viewed by many as feral or just street dogs when in fact, wadi dogs make wonderful pets. They're brilliant, loyal and loving and all deserve a home and family of their own. Local adoption rates are low each year, therefore we hugely rely on overseas adopters to provide the forever-loving homes that our dogs deserve.
