OUR WORK
Usikimye is a women-led organization that aims at responding and addressing sexual and gender based violence in Kenya.
Usikimye helps people, mostly women and girls whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict, violence and harmful traditional practices and beliefs such as FGM to survive, recover and gain control of their future to thrive.
In more than 28 counties in Kenya, our dedicated team (all voluntary staff) facilitates the access to health services for sexual and gender-based violence survivors. These services include clinical care for sexually assaulted survivors and domestic violence survivors. We also provide access to trauma counseling, and legal aid.
Usikimye runs a safe haven/shelter for survivors and ensures that once the survivor is physically and psychologically healthy and stable she is economically empowered and reintegrated back to society. This is done through their skill transferences programs, entrepreneurship bootcamps and job placements for shelter residents.
OUR IMPACT
1. Since 2019 December to date, Usikimye has rescued 296 survivors. The metrics: 221 women, 8 men, 33 teenagers and 34 children under the age of 7.
USIKIMYE has also facilitated the rescue of about 40 survivors through community volunteers from different grassroot smaller organizations by availing them with transport hence facilitating their access to medical care.
2. Usikimye has provided shelter to 68 survivors in 2020. Usikimye has had 37 long term residents at the shelter and 31 transitional temporary shelter residents.
USIKIMYE offers temporary shelters to survivors who are at risk and need to be relocated to more established safe houses with better resources or those that need a place to stay for the night before they access justice.
3. We have helped 13 survivors start and run sustainable small scale businesses and also sought employment for about 14 survivors. We still have 10 survivors that we shall rehome by December 30th, 2020.
OUR FOCUS
USIKIMYE puts in place high-impact and economical solutions that help people affected by gender based violence. We use our learning and experience to shape GBV response and advocacy points and practice in ways that improve in fostering resilience and rebuilding the lives of vulnerable women and girls and other survivors of GBV within Kenya. And in all of our work we focus on breaking down each of the barriers faced by women and girls.
OUR GOALS
USIKIMYE is proud to fight for a world that advocates against sexual and gender based violence.
We are creating an equal chance for survivors to succeed. We are dedicated to ensuring that women, children and marginalized groups have equal social and economic choices. This ensures that they safely have access to health services, justice, and even education.
PURPOSE FOR FUNDRAISING
USIKIMYE is helping survivors of gender based violence in Nairobi and around other counties in Kenya.
Any money you give through this campaign will go directly to Usikimye to provide aid for survivors — everything from rescues , safe house needs such as food, water, and clothes to care for children abused and cast away by family, access to justice and health services.
GBV is a complex and evolving crisis, and there are no overnight solutions. But even a small contribution can give a family a safe place to sleep, food, clothes and access to health services, therapy sessions, justice and a chance to rebuild their lives
Help USIKIMYE raise $55,000 US which works to provide safe haven/shelter for survivors of gender based violence and conduct safe rescue missions for them.
