Valerie and Mike Cross and Makia along with their family lost everything on the evening of November 2nd 2024. No sirens went off and suddenly they found themselves in what would be later described as a EF3 tornado. As Valerie combed the house for her grandson Makia with her husband Mike she would get hit on the head and neck with debris from what she would later find out was their home tearing apart. As they huddled together with Mike shielding both of them with his own body caring only for their safety and none for his own, debris would continue to fall on them for what felt like hours but were only mere minutes that changed their lives forever. They would awaken to the devastating destruction of their home that held so many fond memories destroyed beyond repair. Their belongings waterlogged and the roof missing in every room of the once warm and loving home now rested in shambles. Two pets unaccounted for and vehicles no where in sight. The loss continuing to pile up into such an unimaginable situation, but thanking god that they still had their lives and eachother.

If you have had the pleasure of knowing this family then you know how loving and caring they are to anyone who crosses their path. I have known Valerie aka “MoM” for over 20 years through my friendship with her son Kevin, who would become later on my daughters God Father and instantly become a brother from another mother ❤️. The first words she spoke to me were “Call me mom everyone does”. From that day forward I was not a friend I was apart of a beautiful family.

She has raised her grandson since birth and had a recent addition to the family of a new baby boy from Mikes daughter Crystal her first child. Due to the loss of their home they are having to post pone a baby shower for Mikes other daughter Nikki’s first baby. This house has hosted several holidays open to not only family but friends because to this couple there is no difference, all are family. Countless weekly family breakfast and dinners full of love and laughter. Tons of movie night gatherings and football games too many to count have blessed this home that is now gone.

The house yes is still standing but the inside is destroyed and is not livable and will be considered a total loss along with almost all belongings. Most do not know that anything insulation has touched can potentially become a health hazard and is advised to use caution when keeping items. So many items destroyed by the record breaking rain and destruction brought by this storm.

Mom and Mike are the most loving and caring people I have ever known. I have been blessed by mom and mikes constant generosity, from groceries when I had none, and to Mike driving across town in the middle of the evening while they were out at dinner to help fix a flat just to name a few. I have witnessed this same generosity and pay it forward attitude from this family to countless others through the years of our friendship. They are the most deserving couple of your love and support I have ever known. Opening their home for meals and to share holidays when you have no where else to go along with giving you a place to stay when you have none whether it be for a night or for months they help to get you on your feet again. Their love and generosity knows no boundaries. So please help this family in their time of need. To provide some much needed relief in a time of their tremendous loss, especially just before the holidays. Whether it is a dollar to hundreds of dollars every bit of it help and is needed and appreciated from the bottom of my heart and theirs. The funds will be used for living expenses and food and replacing all that they have lost. Pictures of the damage is below.

I have been asked by Valerie and Mike Cross to set up and help manage a GoFundMe account in their time of need. Due to the overwhelming nature and shock of their current circumstances it makes it hard for them to do at this moment. We thank you for anything you can give even if it is just a heartfelt message/prayer it is appreciated from the bottom of our hearts thank you.

If you don’t feel comfortable giving via godfundme or wish to give in other means you can contact me at you can send a message and i will provide my phone number for you to text your name and that you are wanting to help this family in their time of need.
