Her infectious laughter could brighten the darkest of days, and her smile could light up any room. In fact, we're pretty sure that her smile was responsible for at least half of the world's sunshine. Our Valerie! A force to be reckoned with!
Valerie Marie Denise Chong Kam was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many with her uplifting spirit, her unwavering faith in God, and her commitment to her family and friends.
Val was a confident and vibrant Haitian-American woman who knew what she wanted and went after it with passion and determination. She spoke multiple languages, including English, Creole, French, Portuguese, and Spanish, which is just one of the many reasons why people from all walks of life were drawn to her.
She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, cousin, and friend. Born on December 11, 1976, in Willingboro, New Jersey to Jacques and Gladys Fidelia. Valerie was the embodiment of (Fós) strength, (Lanmou) love, and (Limyè) light.
She was an intelligent woman who excelled academically, attending Holy Cross High School, class of 1995, where she was an active member of the cheerleading squad.
After high school, Valerie became the first member of her family to move away from home to attend college graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Florida International University in Miami, Florida and was a proud member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority.
She began a successful career in nursing, working for over 20 years as a Registered Nurse at Baptist Health South Florida in Miami and more recently as a Case Manager at Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, California. Her love for helping people was evident in her career, where she found joy in caring for others.
Valerie was a positive and encouraging presence in everyone's life, always putting the needs of others before her own. She inspired those around her to pursue education and reach for their dreams. In addition, she helped and motivated her daughter to get a full-ride academic scholarship to NYU where she will study to become a doctor!
Valerie was the kind of person who made everyone feel welcome and loved.
She was a devoted wife to her husband: Paulo Alexandre Chong Kam, and a proud mother to her three children: Gabriela Rodrigues Chong Kam, David Alexandre Chong Kam, and Daniel Alexandre Chong Kam.
Valerie's love for her family knew no bounds, even when she was living far away in California. Her siblings, Jacqueline Marie Emmanuelle Bouchereau, Patrick Fidelia, Marie Gabrielle Magaly Anteola, Claude Henry Dominique Fidelia, Johanne Fidelia Goutier, Nichole Kimberly Taylor, Jacques Antonio Frantz Appleton, Jacques Antoine Frantz Fidelia Jr., were her everything. Distance couldn't break the unbreakable bond they shared, and her heart remained full of love for them. To Valerie, family was the cornerstone of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Valerie was a woman of many talents and passions, if you ever had the pleasure of being in her presence, you know that she radiated love, kindness, positivity, and the perfect amount of sass and sarcasm. She loved to travel the world, dance to Konpa and Salsa music, she would sing loudly around the house, loved family gatherings, and let’s not forget her love for fashion, bright colors, and makeup!

She had a passion for shopping and was known for her thoughtfulness in bringing back gifts for her family members whenever she traveled. She loved laughing, she loved flowers (specifically exotic orchids), and being by the ocean. If the weather was hot and a swimsuit was near, Val was there!
She was a devout Christian who placed her faith in the power of prayer and trusted in God's guidance for all her decisions. She eagerly shared her belief in God's will and cherished Joshua 24:15 as her treasured scripture, “but as for me and my household, we will serve the lord”
Valerie passed on April 18, 2023 after a 3 year long battle with cancer. She was a warrior who fought with grace, courage, and a smile. Her faith with God allowed her to be at peace daily even through her darkest hours. Our strong sister has now gained her wings to become our angel!
She has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her legacy of helping others, praising God, self-love, and love for family will continue to inspire!
We will treasure the memories we shared with her and find comfort in knowing that she is now at peace. She will forever remain a cherished part of our family!
Valerie's smile, forever bright in our hearts, a shining light. Peaceful now, she's found her way. Her memory with us, it shall stay!
A visitation for Valerie will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Upper Room Church, 19701 SW 127 Ave, Miami, Florida 33186, followed by a funeral service from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
