Help Vance Get His Life-Saving Hip Surgery
Donation protected
Vance is a 6-year-old Great Dane/German Shepherd mix who is in urgent need of help.
Unfortunately, my mom and I don't have the funds to cover it.
We got him from the Humane Society of Greater Savannah when he was only 2 months old in 2018. He was there with a couple of his siblings, but we fell in love with him instantly because of his sweet, silly disposition. We noticed his brother was aggressive with him with the ball, but he didn't show a shred of aggression towards him. He was just focused on playing, licking our faces, and chasing the ball.
To this day, Vance is the most loving, sweet, gentle, fun, goofy, intelligent dog. We got him because we knew our dog, Callie, who is also from the Humane Society, needed a good companion. They bonded instantly and are inseparable. He loves to go on walks, play with his toys, play tag with Callie, cuddle, and eat raw carrots.
Due to Vance's breed and active lifestyle, he has developed hip dysplasia in his right leg. One morning, we woke up and he couldn't walk and refused to get up. We were so upset and confused as to what happened to our active, happy dog.
After hundreds and hundreds of dollars of vet visits, infrared light therapy sessions, Librela shots, medications, etc., our veterinarian finally recommended x-rays and we were able to see Vance's femur bone is completely displaced from his hip. The ball is no longer in the dip of the hip. No wonder he had such pain walking. He has been a trooper and has continued to try to play and walk, but he hops on the right leg which will eventually lead to his muscles atrophying and him going lame.
Our vet recommended an FHO, but when we went to the vet specialist who does this procedure, he said it wouldn't work because he's such a big dog. Therefore, Vance would need a complete hip replacement surgery which is estimated at $13,000. To further complicate things, the surgeon who specializes in hip replacements for large breed dogs is in Chattanooga, Tennessee. We live in Richmond Hill, Georgia, so we will also need to fund the travel and stay there. Following the surgery, he will need weeks of expensive physical therapy to help him walk again.
If we wait too long for the surgery, the surgeon said he could develop too much scar tissue which would make him ineligible for the hip replacement surgery. If that happens, he will eventually go lame and we will see the light in Vance fizzle out.
Vance is so young and still has so much life left in him. He brings so much joy to mine and my mom's life and to our dog, Callie, who would be heartbroken without him. He deserves to live a full, happy life.
Unfortunately, my mom (the primary owner) has been a single mother my entire life and is currently a special education teacher at a local high school. I am a small business owner with not nearly enough funds to cover this.
We ask for your support to help save our baby Vance. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for any contribution, every share, every thought, and prayer. I love this dog more than life itself and I am eternally grateful for any contribution.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Let's save our baby Vance!
