Help Vanessa Get an Electric Wheelchair

Hi all,

 

During the course of the last two years, I’ve been dealing with chronic illnesses that have completely changed my life. Before these complications, I was an active individual that enjoyed powerlifting, bouldering, and hiking. Now, I'm not able to walk or stand for more than 15 minutes at a time without the pain creeping in.

 

I have been diagnosed with Endometriosis (endo) and Sjogren’s Syndrome (SS), two diseases I had never heard of and now know they both have no cure. The endo has been more or less managed, however SS was difficult to diagnose and is proving to be even more difficult to treat.

 

My whole life has changed and I've had to find ways to adapt to get by. I depend on mobility aids to get around and have some form of independency. I have weak legs and sensitive ribs that flare up in pain with too much activity. Because of this, I'm limited to how much I am able to do. I'm asking for donations to help afford a lightweight electric wheelchair and booster to lift it in a car. I'm not able to use a regular wheelchair since my ribs get upset with the turning. A lightweight electric wheelchair will help me be able to move around and have some normalcy and potentially being able to go out on my own.

 

For those that are curious about the conditions I have, here's some quick info:

 

Endometriosis (en-doe-me-tree-O-sis) is an often painful disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus — the endometrium — grows outside your uterus. Endometriosis most commonly involves your ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining your pelvis. There is no cure, the only way to diagnose and treat endometriosis is through surgery.

 

Sjögren's ("SHOW-grins") is a systemic autoimmune disease that affects the entire body. Along with symptoms of extensive dryness, other serious complications include profound fatigue, chronic pain, major organ involvement, neuropathies and lymphomas. There is no cure, but there is treatment to manage symptoms and slow the progression of the disease.

Durante los últimos dos años, he estado lidiando con enfermedades crónicas que han cambiado mi vida por completo. Antes de estas complicaciones, yo era una persona activa que disfrutaba del levantamiento de pesas, el boulder y el senderismo. Ahora, no puedo caminar o estar de pie por más de 15 minutos seguidos sin que el dolor me invada.


Me han diagnosticado endometriosis (endo) y síndrome de Sjogren (SS), dos enfermedades de las que nunca había oído hablar y ahora sé que no tienen cura. El endo se ha manejado más o menos, sin embargo, SS fue difícil de diagnosticar y está demostrando ser aún más difícil de tratar.


Toda mi vida ha cambiado y he tenido que encontrar formas de adaptarme para salir adelante. Dependo de las ayudas para la movilidad para moverme y tener algún tipo de independencia. Tengo piernas débiles y costillas sensibles que se inflaman de dolor con demasiada actividad. Debido a esto, estoy limitada a lo que puedo hacer. Estoy pidiendo donaciones para ayudar a pagar una silla de ruedas eléctrica liviana y un elevador para levantarla en un automóvil. No puedo usar una silla de ruedas normal porque me molestan las costillas al girar. Una silla de ruedas eléctrica liviana me ayudará a poder moverme y tener cierta normalidad y, potencialmente, poder salir por mi cuenta.
