Help Vanna Rebuild After Eaton Fire
Donation protected
My name is Sarah Jakle and I live in Los Angeles. We are raising money for the wonderful Vanna and her two puppy dogs, who are recovering from the Eaton Fire. We were lucky to be able to house them for free for two months and want make sure they launch successfully.
Not only did Vanna lose everything in the Eaton fire, everything that she and the puppy dogs owned, because she was renting a back house from a property owner, she is not eligible for any FEMA funds. FEMA will only provide funds for one family her address, so she gets nothing. She lost her safety deposit. Other than a few pieces of clothing and the two beds we bought for the dogs, she doesn’t have anything.
she is also working so hard: she has been studying to be an aviation mechanic and only has one year of school left. We really need a good mechanics for our airplanes, especially now! We want to support these extraordinary humans who are studying so hard to learn how to keep us safe in the sky. to support herself while she’s in school, she’s taking every Taskrabbit job she can get. Often she studies all day and works all night, just coming home to take care of the dogs
This is especially heartbreaking because Vanna used to work in disaster recovery in the Pacific Northwest. She helped people who had lost things in the floods, and worked with firefighters to help make them breakfast and wash their clothes. She has devoted her career to helping others and disasters.
what she really needs is to be able to put forth a first and last months rent. Studios right now in Los Angeles are going anywhere between $900 and $1700 a month. We are trying to raise $5000 to not only provide her the key first and last months rent, but a little cushion to buy a few things for her and the dogs. She is the very best and sweetest puppy dog mom and her dogs are adorable.
I am conscious that those of us with larger networks have people to turn to in times of disaster to help raise money. Those like Vanna who lose everything and aren’t eligible for aid are the ones who can fall through the cracks, even when she’s working so hard. It would mean the world to make a gift to support this extraordinary woman and her dogs and invest in a capable, compassionate mechanic for our airplanes to keep us safe in the sky!
