Help Verlie Recover: Emergency Surgery Fund
Donation protected
There are so many good things I could say about the blessing Verlie has been to so many. I’m calling on her community to come to her aid and give.
VERLIE'S DIAGNOSIS
Verlie was diagnosed with a mass on her brain stem which created fluid retention in her brain causing her to have high blood pressure in her eyes. Since the mass was diagnosed as non malignant, the doctor advised that the best approach was to implant a shunt to relieve the water from the brain which would reduce the high blood pressure in her eyes until a decision could be made as to whether she would need radiation or chemotherapy to remove the mass. A shunt was implanted in March. This procedure cost BZ $15,485.15 and she's used all her savings and resources to cover the bill. The follow up examination done after the shunt was implanted indicated that a second procedure is needed to adjust the shunt for it to properly release the fluid gathering in her brain and that she will need to undergo radiation to reduce the mass as it will impair her brain functions. The second procedure will be done in Merida and will cost BZ $19,666.67. Along with her family and church community she's raised as much as she can. She also needs additional funds to cover transportation and accommodation and her other follow up procedures that will be needed to remove the mass.
Verlie has not been able to work for quite some time due to her health and we are unsure of the length of her recovery. We hope to raise enough to cover her medical bills - BZ $35,151.82 or US $17,575.91. Thank you for any donation you can give. Every dollar goes a long way!
