Help Veterans Get A New Roof- Madison VFW
UPDATE:
Seweryn Zaman from Zaman roofing contacted us right away as well as Devin Lingan, a territory manager for GAF roofing supplies after hearing about the fundraiser on WFSB. It turns out Zaman Roofing also uses GAF supplies and had contacted them about donating the roof supplies and Zaman Roofing would donate the labor. Mr Zaman also contacted Sebastian Lobeski owner of Gutter Experts LLC and he agreed to donate the gutters. The only thing we didn't have was a mason to repair the chimney. After contacting a few masons we talked to Mani Ulku and his wife, owner of Mani's Masonry in Madison and they said they would donate the labor if the VFW could pay for supplies.
Yesterday 9/18 Mr Zaman and his whole crew from Zaman Roofing came out and replaced the roof at the VFW 2096 Post on Lovers Lane in Madison. Mr Lingan was also there and assisted with missing supplies and Mr Lobeski came out and replaced the gutters. Mani's Masonry will come out soon to finish the job by replacing the chimney.
The Members of the post are extremely grateful for the generous donations of all these companies' time and supplies!! and to everyone who donates to the fundraiser!
The VFW is in a much better place right now but there are still things with the building that need to be addressed like paying for the chimney supplies, the siding and the windows as well as other administrative costs like insurance for the building that the members still need help with financially. We are going to keep the GoFundMe page active to continue to raise the funds they still need.
The VFW is also looking for veterans in the community to join the post to help continue all the community service programs they sponsor and help keep the VFW active here for another 50+
Original Post:
The roofing at the Madison, CT VFW Post 2096 is leaking and needs to be replaced! ASAP
Repairs have been performed in past years by VFW members but there are not currently any members able to do this job (most of the members who are active in the Post are in their 70's) and a roof replacement is necessary.
Please help! The VFW Post 2096 fundraising has been impacted by the pandemic and their future is in jeopardy if they do not get the roof replaced asap. They have already lost one long term renter because of the water damage caused by the leaking roof.
Many of us in the community have attended events at the VFW Post building. It is an important part of the Madison community and its history. But most of us don't realize that the VFW members in Madison are active in many community service roles. They provide scholarships for students through the Patriot Pen and Voice of Democracy programs. They volunteer in the schools for Veteran's programs and are interviewed by students from our local high school for their Combat Literature class. They volunteer and speak at many Veteran's programs and ceremonies sponsored by the town and local nursing homes. They give a Teacher of the Year award as well as Americanism and Emergency Responder awards. They have volunteered for many years at the VA hospital in West Haven, CT. And they also collect and properly dispose of retired American flags. (If you are able to join, Madison Post 2096 is also in need of new members to carry on these important community service roles)
The VFW building was built over 50 years ago by members. Please help our Veterans!
