HELP: Victim of Child Predator Facing Jail Time

In 2001, at the age of 17, I was lured and groomed by a 37-year-old man on the internet. Being sufficiently brainwashed, I moved from New York to Maryland to live with this individual as soon as I turned 18. I got pregnant at the age of 18 and gave birth to our first child when I was 19 years old. Subsequently, we got married, and I gave birth to my second child when I was 21 years old. After years of being sexually abused and controlled, I was told by my abuser that I should leave his house if I was not happy with the treatment I was receiving.

With the reality of being homeless, I moved out. I was too young to even fathom the repercussions of this decision. I was denied custody because the father, 20 years older than me, was more established and capable of providing for the children. My visitation with my children was limited and restricted as if I was somehow incapable of this right. Despite my limited access to the children, I have always maintained a close relationship with them, and I have always been in their life.

In 2010 an initial order for child support was established. Two weeks later, I was involved in a life-changing car accident, and thus began a series of unfortunate events that has led me here. I became temporarily disabled and needed to move back to New York so that I could be cared for by family. During this time, I tried to have my child support modified but was unable to get a favorable decision. The court imputed income during my time of disability, leaving me owing even though I was unable to work as before. I have tried to appeal to the court on several occasions, but I have since lost hope. I continue to be required to pay child support based on imputed income rather than actual earnings.

I now owe over $100,000 in arrears for child support. My abuser has petitioned the court to have me incarcerated if I do not pay him what is owed. I do not have the means to come up with this money, and I am afraid that this leaves me spending the rest of my life in jail.
