Help Violet and Her Daughter Avoid Eviction

Violet, a hardworking single mother, is facing eviction and homelessness unless she can raise $2,500 by February 21st. Despite holding a full-time union job for over 10 years, Violet hasn’t received a raise in nearly a decade and earns just above minimum wage. She’s battled serious health issues, including Lyme disease, arthritis, and a recent severe concussion, while caring for her 17-year-old daughter, who has struggled with severe mental health challenges. Although her daughter is now on the path to recovery, the financial strain from years of hardship has left Violet behind on rent. She’s doing everything she can, but without this support, they will lose their home. Below is their full story. Any contribution you can make will help keep this family safe and housed.

Violet's Story

Violet has faced unimaginable challenges with resilience and determination. For over 10 years, she’s worked full-time in a union job, but without a raise in 9 years, her earnings are barely above minimum wage. Violet is a survivor of domestic violence and has struggled with serious health conditions, including Lyme disease and arthritis. Recently, she sustained a severe concussion, further complicating her health. On top of this, Violet is dealing with undiagnosed medical issues that have made life even more difficult.

Violet is also the sole caregiver to her 17-year-old daughter, who has faced severe mental health struggles in recent years. These challenges led to multiple hospital stays, and Violet had to take significant time off work to care for her. Despite all of this, Violet has remained steadfast in providing a safe, loving environment for her daughter. They live together in a small one-bedroom apartment, where Violet sleeps in the living room so her daughter can have the privacy and space she needs to heal.

Thankfully, things are starting to look up for Violet’s daughter. She’s made significant progress, working toward her GED and holding down her first job. But the financial toll of the past few years has left Violet behind on rent. She has been making bi-monthly payments toward her back rent, which now consume 75% of her monthly income. After covering her basic bills, Violet is left with just $40 per pay period to cover gas, groceries, medical copays, and other necessities.

Now, Violet is facing eviction. She has been summoned to court and must pay $5,095 in full by February 21st to avoid losing her home. Violet expects to receive a tax return of about $3,000 before the court date, but she still needs $2,500 to cover the remaining balance and have a small cushion for basic living expenses while waiting for her next paycheck.
