Help Vishu fund his College Education

Meet Vishu!

Vishwanth Sadu, known to friends and family as Vishu, is an ambitious young man full of dreams.

He is an outstanding student in high school with a keen interest in management and is passionate about playing basketball.

A few years ago, he set his sights to go to the USA for higher studies as he considers it the mecca of his twin interests, management and basketball. His family’s financial situation has been dire and he met with the standard pieces of advice discouraging him from pursuing his goal and asking him to be more “pragmatic”.

Not one to be deterred, he worked hard towards his goal and he made it!

He has gained acceptance at the prestigious University of Illinois in Chicago (UIC) for a Bachelor’s degree in management.

Vishu needs your help

Towards reaching his goal of continuing his studies in the USA, Vishu and his family needs to clear a high hurdle, where we desperately need your help. The first year alone at UIC will cost around US$ 50,000. This is a tall order for his family at this time. Through a one-time grant from the university of $10,000, other loans and assistance from family, friends and well-wishers, we have come up with about US$ 35,000. It still falls short by about US$ 15,000. The goal of this fundraiser is to bridge the gap and clear this final hurdle for Vishu.

We need to address this shortfall by August 2021.

I, Satyanarayan

I am Satyanarayan Sadu, proud father of Vishu. While I am a firm believer in Vishu’s determination and capability, I am also equally embarrassed that I am the primary reason for the predicament Vishu is in.

Educating my children is something extremely important to me. It is something passed on to me by my parents, who sent me to BITS, Pilani, for my education despite severe hardships. Supporting Vishu on his endeavor would have been a no-brainer if not for my self-inflicted financial calamity.

I graduated in 1987 from BITS, Pilani and started my career in the computer industry, which was heating up at the time. I had a great career with some great companies and everything was a dream until 2012. Call it a midlife crisis or the entrepreneurial itch, I left my well-paying job as a financial consultant and pursued an aquaculture venture.

In December 2012, I leased 260 acres of Aqua Culture ponds in Gudivada, Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh.  Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, including my inexperience, misguidance, natural causes like drought, and terrible timing, the venture turned into a huge money drain and required me to put my home and a couple of commercial properties down as security for bank loans.

As my losses mounted (to the tune of Rs. 6 crores - (about US$ 1 Million at that time), I had to make the difficult call of shutting down my venture.  With the bank threatening to foreclose on my properties, I had to figure out how to buy time and sustain the family.

Some friends provided much-needed financial help that got us through everyday expenses. My wife and I both looked for jobs and got whatever came first so that we could get back on our feet again.

Unfortunately, the creditors started showing up at our house frequently, demanding payment – often getting loud, and threatening me and my family which resulted in the cops being called a few times. My wife and kids were scared, and it severely impacted the academic performance of my children. We encouraged Vishu to concentrate on sports so that he could get a 50% concession on tuition fee payments at his high school.

In parallel, I was fighting legal battles with my creditors in court which was both financially and emotionally draining. In 2019 with the help of a close friend from BITS who found me after years of search, I was able to catch up on a few payments and restarted my “professional” career. I am now repaying the creditors from my salary.

Given my financial record, it has been very difficult to get any loan from banks to fund Vishu’s college education. After having seen him withstand the adversity and achieve what he did, it would totally break my heart to fail him at this crucial juncture. I am here seeking your assistance to help Vishu realize his dream.

Vishu and I are well versed with the indignities of owing people money and will do our best to repay your kindness in the near future. For those of you who may not require us to pay back, I promise we will pay it forward.
