DONATE TO WABISABI'S NEW HOME
WabiSabi needs your help! Our current lease is up in March 2025, and while we’ll make it in an interim location, we will need funding for a new building to continue our mission. WabiSabi is a nonprofit that receives, revalues, and redistributes needed resources to strengthen the community. We increase the impact of local nonprofits by providing money and materials to help support Moab’s most vulnerable population. Sure, we are a thrift store where you’ll find all the funky fresh finds, but the truth is, we are SO much more than just that! It’ll take a village to reach our goal and we believe we have the village behind us. Any donation will help make an impact and we are beyond grateful for the support.
ABOUT WABISABI: WabiSabi was founded in 2002 to support the well-being of our community. We are a nonprofit thrift store in Moab, Utah. We strive to minimize waste and maximize resources in our town. We pride ourselves in processing over 350 tons worth of donations and keeping almost all of it out of the landfill through sales, donations, and recycling.
NONPROFIT PARTNER AWARDS: When you shop in the thrift store, you are given a token to place in one of 8 jars that each represent a nonprofit. At the end of the month, these tokens are counted and WabiSabi makes a deposit into their accounts. We change our token partners annually and we have been able to provide funding for many nonprofits. We have given nearly TWO MILLION dollars to community-based nonprofits such as the Youth Garden Project, Free Health Clinic, Multicultural Center and SO many more.
VOUCHER PROGRAM: Our voucher program provides immediate relief items for those in need. This includes an array of items from an outfit suitable for a job interview to winter attire for a child that outgrew their attire from the previous winter. Last year alone, we provided $57,000 in material donations to those with immediate needs. This doesn’t include the large amount of material donations we provide to other organizations. Some examples of these materials are blankets/sheets for Underdog Rescue, camping supplies for Moab Solutions to provide for the homeless, and supplies for local students.
THANKSGIVING COMMUNITY MEAL: For 19 years, WabiSabi has hosted a very special meal for the community. This meal is free to attend, offering a warm meal amidst the camaraderie of Moab’s diverse community. It’s a day of gratitude, reflection, and communal celebration, embodying the essence of Thanksgiving. The event is not just a feast, but a manifestation of community spirit, bringing together individuals to share a meal and gratitude. Last year, we served 740 meals to all walks of life at the Grand Center. We kept the meal alive during the pandemic. We substituted the gathering and delivered meals to those in need.
BULK RECYCLING: WabiSabi saves thousands of tons of textiles from the landfill that can take hundreds of years to break down! We believe in the reduce and reuse motto and do just that. We fill a semi-truck 2-3 times a year with over 30 thousand pounds of textiles to be sent off for repurposing.
Funds secured during this campaign over the next two years will be used to establish an 8,000 square foot building to accommodate the thrift store and its daily operations, community space, and a place for other nonprofits and organizations to come together to brainstorm and create.
We are aiming to raise $500,000 for our new home. Please, donate if you can and spread the word. Every little bit will help us reach our goal. Much Love!
WABISABI: THE BEAUTY OF IMPERFECTION
Taken from the Japanese words wabi, which translates to less is more, and sabi, which means attentive melancholy. WabiSabi calls us to find the beauty within, beyond external appearance.
