Help Walter Forbes Get Back on His Feet

The Michigan Innocence Clinic is thrilled to share that Walter Forbes, longtime client of the Clinic, has been exonerated and released from prison after nearly 40 years. Mr. Forbes was convicted of a 1982 arson/murder in Jackson, Michigan and was sentenced to life in prison in 1983. In November 2020 he was granted a new trial due to compelling new evidence of innocence, and on Friday, November 20 he was released from prison. The prosecutor has since dropped the case and Mr. Forbes is a completely free man.

There was a severe COVID outbreak in the facility where Mr. Forbes was housed, so we initially started this fundraiser to cover the costs of Mr. Forbes' housing, food, etc. as he quarantined. Fortunately, Mr. Forbes made it through quarantine with no signs of COVID and is now reunited with friends and family. All funds raised here go directly to Mr. Forbes.
