Dear friends,
I am Wessam Abed, and I live in Gaza City. I am 29 years old, and I used to work as a lecturer at the University College of Applied Sciences in Gaza. I have a small family consisting of my wife, Tassnim, who is currently pregnant, and my son, Yazan, who is under two years old. My son completed his first year in the first month of the war, a year that he will never forget, just as we will never forget the chaos that followed.
Before the war, our lives were simple and peaceful. I got married three years before the war, and I built a modest home where we lived together, dreaming of a future full of promise. But everything changed when the war broke out, turning our world upside down.
During the war, I lost my home and my source of income. Our only house, which we had bought with hard-earned installment payments, was destroyed beyond repair. We still owe about $25,000 for it, and now, it is a pile of rubble—an unbearable reminder of what we lost.
Now, after nearly two years of war, we have lost everything. There is no safe place. We have been forced to move from one place to another, hoping to find somewhere safe, but there is no safety in Gaza anymore. Our house, located in northern Gaza, was completely destroyed. The environment is unbearable—filled with garbage, bomb debris, and sewage—and we are desperately lacking the basic essentials of life, including food, water, and medicine.
For more than ten years, we have endured the unimaginable consequences of war. Every single day is a battle for survival—there is no electricity, clean water is scarce, food is a luxury we cannot afford, and we live in constant fear. The streets are unsafe, and we have to keep moving, always searching for safety. Our meals are meager, often spoiled, and we haven’t had fresh vegetables in almost 1 years. Providing essentials like milk and diapers for my son has become an impossible challenge.
In this ongoing struggle, any support you can offer would be a lifeline for us. Even a small contribution, like $5, can make a difference, allowing us to secure basic needs. If you're unable to donate, simply sharing our story with others and spreading awareness can be just as impactful.
I am writing this story from the heart of Gaza, from a place of constant fear, destruction, and hopelessness. We see death every day, and every night, we are terrified by the sound of bombing. I cannot provide my son with the essentials—milk, food, diapers. We are living amidst rubble and trash, and my son, who is not yet two years old, has missed essential vaccinations due to the lack of hospitals and healthcare centers.
Our only hope now is to find a safe place to live, far from the destruction and terror of war.
My dream is to leave Gaza and head to Egypt, where we can rebuild our lives. But the cost of leaving Gaza is astronomical. It costs about $5,000 per person, and I need to raise this money to ensure my family’s safety and future. I also hope to provide my child with a brighter future and to help my wife complete her education, which the war has interrupted. The cost of her education is about $9,000.
The Rafah crossing has been closed by the Israeli military, but we are still applying for travel permits in the hope that the crossing will reopen soon, allowing us to escape this nightmare.

My child's room was destroyed and his car was destroyed. I found his car among the rubble of my destroyed house

Why do we need the funds?
- To temporarily travel to a safe place (Egypt), where I can protect my family’s lives. The cost for each person is $5,000. We will leave once travel is permitted and the crossing is open.
- To rebuild our home that was destroyed in the war.
- To provide essential needs and food in a time when prices are rising, and traders are exploiting the situation.
- To help my wife complete her education, which was interrupted due to the war.
Your support, no matter how small, will ensure that my family and I can live a safe life and build a brighter future.
I kindly ask for your help in protecting my son’s future and giving him a life free from the horrors of war.
With deep gratitude and hope,
My cousin Mohammed Abed in Germany is organizing my campaign funds, Along with our friend Christine from Canada and her friends from all around the world, they are doing everything they can to help us reach safety. Here is the link to their Team P4P.
