Help while Laken fights his fight
Donation protected
Laken is 18 months old. Laken has had about 13 or so high fevers in the past three months. We have brought him into Mayo Clinic 10+ times during these few months & a lot of times would get antibiotics to treat ear infection.
He has had 6+ ear infections in between these fevers and with the fevers. He has had the worst chronic runny nose I’ve ever seen also during this time. He has not responded to any of the antibiotics fully. Every two weeks or so this high fever spikes.
Fast forward to this past weekend Feb. 20th 2022 his father, Anthony & I picked him up from my parents house and he had spiked yet another fever. Of course this was nothing new to us, so we brought him home watched his fever & his fluid intake & of course gave him Tylenol & put him to sleep. He stayed home that Monday with Daddy while mommy went to work. Tuesday morning he is into his third day now of this fever & it’s super high and isn’t coming down with Tylenol & ibuprofen, so I (mom) take him into Mayo Clinic NE clinic for a checkup thinking it was another ear infection.
This time was different. I got there and immediately the nurse called in an emergency Dr and all of a sudden there were four drs working on my little man to emergency get his fever down asap as it was 105°. He started acting lethargic very quickly & they wouldn’t let us leave. After five hours at NE clinic they sent us to the st Mary’s emergency department. We then got an I.v in there & continued to monitor his fever & fluid intake. He wasn’t improving with Tylenol or ibuprofen.
Late that night about 11:00pm Tuesday evening we got admitted into St.Marys Francis 3-123 for further evaluations & monitoring.
He has had CT scans, about 7 pokes for I.v they can’t keep in keeps rejecting, several blood draws & labs. He has red bottom feet, lips, hands, he is miserable. He has a rash on his whole body. We are onto Saturday now here aT ST.Mary’s and we are working with the Infectious disease unit.
He is on two antibiotics for a major sinus infection that went untreated by his primary doctor after I repeatedly stated I thought he had one and especially with his other ENT issues and his parents (me and Anthony) also having major ENT issues.
He has to be on these for 14-21 days and then we have to see infectious disease immediately following for testing.
His labs were negative for what they thought it could be. The drs stated “Laken is a complex case, his symptoms aren’t fully matching anything they are coming up with” & “the infectious disease unit are getting their paychecks worth with my son”
Not to reassuring, right?
They thought he had some long haulers symptoms from covid we had & they all came back negative.
Today Saturday the 26th we are still working with them and he has declined in a way he lethargic like- hasn’t walked won’t hold toys, hardly keeps his eyes open still has a rash. No fever though!
We are doing a full body CT scan as of today for full body & more blood labs. We have a nationwide Dr from infectious disease working with us. He also has a bad cough now and inflammation around lungs and in blood work.
With this all being said Anthony & I haven’t worked in a week, we’ve also had to call in sick so many times these last few months for his illnesses. I am the last person to ask anyone for help, but at this time with me not being able to for sure go back to work for another month as infectious disease follows him very closely & we are still in the hospital. We are asking for any help, so we can pay some bills & get meals while being here and for the month following or even longer..
we are very thankful for the support we have gotten from everyone thus far. Keep praying for our son and sending all the love & healing vibes & energy.
All the love & Thanks,
Anthony & Kayla.
