Help Willow and the Malone family
Donation protected
As some of you know, Willow has been diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma. This is a cancer that most often occurs in and around the bones, and typically in children or adolescents under 20.
Willow had been having pain off and on which led to an X-ray on 11/1. A mass on the left side of her chest was discovered. Additional tests and scans were done over the following weeks to confirm the diagnosis.
Willow was diagnosed on November 17th, and admitted to Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines on November 19th due to not being able to manage her pain at home. On November 21st the doctors did a PET scan, bone marrow biopsy, and inserted her port for chemotherapy. The PET scan showed that the cancer has metastasized into some lymph-nodes and a small spot on her pubic bone.
Her first chemotherapy treatment was on November 22nd. She will be on a minimum 9-month treatment regimen involving chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery to remove the mass. The goal is to shrink the tumor in her chest so that it can be taken out via surgery, and to get rid of the cancerous cells in other areas of her body.
It’s uncertain right now how much time Josh and Chris will need to be off work during this treatment process.
They asked me to share how they have been amazed and humbled already by the outpouring of love and support from friends and family.
